Insulin analogs and medical devices to be compensated as from July 1

For the first time as of July 1, insulin analogs and medical devices will be compensated with money from the mandatory health insurance funds for patients who suffer from diabetes and those who undergo surgery. The persons will have free access to tests, lancets for daily monitoring blood glucose levels, stoma bags. The medical devices will be available from all the drugstores contracted by the National Health Insurance Company, Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco stated in a news conference.

“Together with the inclusion into the list of compensated drugs, the patients will have free access to seven common international names of insulin analogs. They need to only go to the drugstore with a prescription and to take the preparation they need. The same refers to the medical devices that will be now compensated for the first time,” said the minister.

The persons in ambulatory palliative care will have free access to 11 common international names of fully compensated medicines. Also, the children older than five and adults with autism spectrum disorders will benefit from a compensated medicine for the first time. “About 20 other common international names of
medicines indicated in the treatment of a number of diseases were supplemented with new doses and pharmaceutical forms, being reintroduced into the list of compensated drugs following their authorization by the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices,” said Ala Nemerenco.

“A sum of 864 million lei was earmarked this year by the law on the mandatory health insurance funds for compensating insulin analogs and medical devices,” said the director general of the National Health Insurance Company Ion Dodon.

About 130,000 persons with diabetes are to benefit from free tests and lancing devices, while another over 2,000 will have free access to stoma bags.
