Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo said dismissals could follow the inspections carried out at the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases. He didn’t provide details, but said that more information will be made available towards the end of this week, IPN reports.

Asked by journalists after the meeting of the Superior Council of Magistracy, Alexandr Stoianoglo said the information collected during a month as part of the inspections at the two specialized prosecutor’s offices is being generalized. The situation is rather unpleasant for the prosecutor’s office and the country and for him as prosecutor general. The generalized information will be provided at the end of this week.

As to the statements made by the suspended chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari, that the prosecutor general could be involved in his arrest, Alexandr Stoianoglo said he does not want to comment on foolish things stated by arrested people. He noted that Viorel Morari enjoys rights and can challenge the decision on his arrest. The request for an arrest warrant was made by the prosecutor in charge of this case and all the legal procedures were respected. “What connection I can have with him, someone asked yesterday. I hadn’t worked in the prosecution service since 2007. In the period, I had no contact with Mister Morari and have no personal connection,” he stated.

On December 9, 2019, the Prosecutor General’s Office said that inspections were ordered at the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases to assess their work as from 2016. The heads of the two institutions were suspended form posts, while Viorel Morari was arrested last week. The inspections were completed on January 10.
