Inflation rate goes up 0.9% in January

Prices went up 0.9% in January 2007 compared with 2006, including for food products by 1.4%, non-food products by 0.8% and services rendered to the population by 0.2%. According to data provided by the National Bureau of Statistics, the price increase was influenced by the prices of several food products, such as vegetables – by 14.5% (including greenhouse potatoes – by 40.2%, fresh cucumber – 28.3%, garlic – 13.9%, fresh cabbage – 10.4%, apples – 4.4%, grapes – 4.2% and wheat flour – 2.2%). As for the non-food products, the newspapers increased in price by 8.7%, drugs and cement - by 2.6%, bedclothes – by 1.5%, and children footwear – by 1.1%. Also the charges for the services provided to the population have also increased. The interstate railway transport and the internal postal service increased charges by 3.4% each, repair of footwear – by 2.7%, ritual services – by 2.2% etc. The price of the following products diminished in January: diet eggs – by 8.3%, sugar – by 1.9%, buckwheat – by 0.6%, meat and diary produces – by 0.1% (including pork and mutton – 2.3% each. and beef – by 0.3%). The inflation rate constituted 13% in January 2007 compared with 2006.
