A 20 year old, driver of a taxi cab in Chisinau was involved on Monday in a road accident, severely injuring a woman, who was admitted to intensive care. Two days ago, another taxi driver, 27, working at 1404 service, hit a tree. As a result the driver died, also killing a woman aged 28. This weekend alone, 6 persons died in accidents caused by young drivers.
According to the Road Police, inexperienced drivers daily cause accidents because of speeding, driving whilst intoxicated and because of numerous violations of the Road Regulation. According to the cited source, driver’s lack of discipline is caused to a great extent by the low level of instruction in the private driving schools. More, these schools apply the method of “external examination”, when candidates are admitted to the qualification examinations without being instructed beforehand.
According to police statistics, out of 45 thousand driving licenses issued in 2005, about 7 thousand were obtained as a result of the “external examination”, which means that every seventh driver does not fully know the theoretical course and has poor practical skills. These “studies” explain the fact that 25%, or 366 accidents, occurred over the first 10 months of 2006 are caused by young drivers with an experience of less than one year.
Drivers with an experience of less than 3 years were involved in 593 accidents and drivers with an experience of less than 5 years were involved in 784 accidents or 53.8%.
In November alone, there were registered 179 car accidents, resulted in 42 casualties and 207 injured persons.
