Inebriated policewoman who mortally struck woman in Sângera gets four years

The policewoman who fatally injured a woman in Sângera by her car while under the influence of alcohol was sentenced two four years in a women’s open prison. The court also banned her from driving means of transport. The sister and child of the killed young woman were also hurt in the accident, IPN reports.

The judgment was passed on Tuesday by the Buiucani Court of Chisinau and can be challenged in the Chisinau Court of Appeals. The defendant had been in pretrial detention until a final decision was pronounced. The term of the sentence starts on August 29, 2023, when she was remanded in custody.

Also, the filed civil lawsuit was admitted and a total of over 500,000 lei in respect of pecuniary and nonpecuniary damages are to be collected from the woman.

On the night of August 29, the inebriated woman fell asleep while driving through Sângera town and, mounting the sidewalk, hit a 31-year-old woman, her daughter aged 6 and her 17-year-old sister. The young woman died on the spot.

The policewomen admitted her guilt.
