India and Moldova will think up a memorandum of cooperation in the agricultural sector. Such a commitment was undertaken by the responsible bodies during a visit paid to India. According to Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea, the document will be aimed at such cooperation directions as agriculture, experience exchange, academic mobility for students, access to the market, phytosanitary requirements and transfer of technologies, IPN reports.

During the visit, the Moldovan officials agreed with the Indian counterparts the steps that need to be taken from phytosanitary viewpoint to authorize apple exports to India so that Moldova increases the quantity of supplied apples. In September-October, Moldovan producers plan to export new quantities of apples to India following after exporting about 100 tonnes at the beginning of the year.

The Indian officials took into consideration Moldova’s possibilities of exporting safe and high-quality products, saying that they are interested in vegetal oil, dried fruit (plums), fresh apples and wine for the hospitality industry. Moldova informed about its interest in importing fertilizers and pesticides at competitive prices.

“The goal was to discuss our export potential and capacities with the Indian authorities and businesses. The Indian side expressed interest in strengthening the bilateral relations in the agrifood sector as trade with agrifood products is still at an incipient stage,” said Vladimir Bolea.

The minister noted that Moldova’s Embassy in New Delhi will be opened in October, when India will hold the G20 Presidency as this fact is expected to lead to more intense political and commercial cooperation, especially in the agrifood sector.
