Independent Journalism Centre awards print journalists

The Independent Journalism Centre, USAID and Winrock International named the winners of a contest for print journalists, which took place during April-October 2006, within the project “New Perspectives for Women”, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Maria Praporsic, programme coordinator at IJC, 24 journalists from 9 cities and towns of Moldova participated in the contest, including from Chisinau, Balti, Tiraspol, Leova, Rezina, an Tighina. 90 articles referring to the issue of preventing and combating trafficking in human beings, illegal migration and domestic violence and offering new opportunities to the women of Moldova had been presented, as well as business ideas in the rural regions intended to counter poverty. The first place at the category national press was won by Angela Brasoveanu, “Punkt” magazine, second place – Antonina Sarbu for the article published in “Ziarul de Garda” newspaper. The first place at the category local press was not awarded, and the second place was won by Olga Savcenco from “SP” weekly, Balti. The special prize Winrock International, “New Perspective for Women” project was awarded to Valeriu Turcan for the article published in “Business-Info” from Cimislia and “Cuvantul Liber” from Leova. As well a prize for students and honourable mentions were offered.
