The number of animals that suffer from rabies continues to grow and this endangers people’s health as the rabies virus, which circulates intensely among the population of foxes, is transmitted to wild animals and to domestic ones. Statistics show the sources of rabies came dangerously close to human communities, IPN reports.
According to the National Veterinary Diagnosis Center, 140 sick animals were recorded in the first nine months of this year, as opposed to 95 in the corresponding period last year. The largest number of animals diagnosed with rabies was reported in the districts of Straseni, Slobozia, Falesti, Ungheni, and Dubasari.
Specialist say the rabies virus is transmitted from foxes to deer, rats, badgers and other wild animals as well as to domestic animals, mainly cows, sheep, goats, dogs and cats. The competent authorities should take measures to combat rabies in animals, including to organize and stimulate the hunting of these animals and to immunize them against rabies.
The statistical data show that about 3,000 people attacked by animals, usually with masters, but that are kept improperly, go to see a doctor each year. More than 1,000 persons are bitten by stray animals. It is vital that he persons attacked by any animal should have a medical examination so as to avoid tragic consequences.
