Pupils in one-form secondary schools will no longer have to choose between the humanities and the real world profile. There will be a general study profile, which was recently introduced in the Education Code, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Education and Research says the measure is necessary in order to have a more balanced distribution of hours between the subjects, so that students can go to faculties with different specialties when they graduate. The initiative comes as about a third of the country's high schools have only one high school class.

"It is essential to respond to the needs of society and the economy, which demand engineers, biologists, chemists and physicists. We are therefore proposing this general profile for one-form entry schools to ensure a more balanced distribution of hours between the humanities and the real subjects. The aim is to provide students with a wider range of opportunities upon graduation from high school, preparing them adequately for programs such as IT or engineering at the Technical University and other higher education institutions", added Minister Dan Perciun.

Until the amendments, the Education Code stipulated that secondary education was organized with a theoretical stream, with humanities and real profiles. For the vocational stream, the profiles are: arts, sports, theological and military.
