The current circumstances are extremely difficult owing to the war in Ukraine and to other crises. In this situation, Poland and Moldova should make common cause and help each other. The statements were made in connection with the eighth session of the Moldova-Poland Parliamentary Assembly that was held in Chisinau on Monday, IPN reports.
Moldova’s Deputy Parliament Speaker Mihail Popșoi, co-chairman of the session, in a news conference reminded that a friend in need is a friend indeed. “And we are glad that in these difficult moments – the energy crisis that hit the Republic of Moldova and the macro-financial difficulties – we enjoy the support of our friends from Poland,” said the MP.
He noted that the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm of Poland Ryszard Terlecki and the colleagues accompanying him assured the Republic of Moldova of their support in the reform process and in the European integration process. “We are glad that there is broad consensus about the support for the Republic of Moldova in the political system of Poland. This support was also seen last year when the Government of Poland intervened to promptly help the Republic of Moldova in a very difficult moment experienced in the energy sector,” stated Mihail Popșoi, assuring that the reform process will continue despite all the attempts made to destabilize the situation.
For his part, Ryszard Terlecki, co-chairman of the session, said that together with the outbreak of the war, the order expected to last forever was disrupted. “In the current situation, both Poland and the Republic of Moldova should be solidary and help each other. We definitely need a new outlook on the supply with new energy resources and need to also have a new view on the military forces of our states,” noted the Polish official.
According to him, there is one more aspect that this year became very important and this is one more enlargement of the European Union. “It doesn’t happen very often but the EU was unanimous as regards the initiation of negotiations on the candidate status for Moldova and Ukraine. I want to assure you that both the Polish Parliament and the Polish MPs and MEPs will support this path for the integration process to end as swiftly as possible,” stated Ryszard Terlecki.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Poland is an interparliamentary consultative body constituted to agree common viewpoints on projects that are of interests to the sides. The Assembly has two plenary sessions a year that are held alternatingly in Moldova and Poland. The previous session took place in Warsaw on December 5-8, 2021.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Poland was established in July 2011.
