A delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) took part in the winter meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly held in Vienna, which discussed the influence of new technologies and social media on electoral processes. The Moldovan officials highlighted the challenges posed by algorithmic filtering of information, digital manipulation and the use of artificial intelligence in election campaigns, IPN reports.
The participants considered how social platforms shape access to information, influencing media pluralism and freedom of expression. A central topic of the debates was the phenomenon of deepfake – manipulated digital content, which can mislead voters and affect the fairness of elections.
In a press release, the MFA noted that the meeting underlined the need for closer cooperation between the OSCE member states in order to adapt the electoral legislation to the new digital realities. Also, the MFA reaffirmed the country's commitment to protecting the integrity of democratic processes and ensuring a safe and balanced information space for the citizens.
