Lawyer Ilie Rotaru calls on the leaders of the Party of Action and Solidarity to stop “the anti-reforms in the justice sector of Moldova”. In this connection, he seeks the resignation of Olesea Stamate as head of the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities and of Veronica Dragalin as head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.

In a news conference  hosted by IPN, the lawyer said the ruling party des not reform the justice sector, but destroys it. This thing will be seen at the end of this year or next summer, when the campaign prior to the presidential election will start.

Ilie Rotaru noted that an attack on Gemeni store was staged in 2009. Armed persons led by Dorin Damir, alongside Vladimir Plahotniuc and Vladimir Voronin, came then and 80 employees of the store were forced to resign. Since then, that team has managed Gemeni. In 2010, Vladimir Plahotniuc removed Vladimir Voronin and until recently collected everything that was possible to collect from there. In 2019, Plahotniuc left and Olesea Stamate appeared at Gemeni in his place. When Maia Sandu served as Prime Minister, he asked her to dismiss Olesea Stamate, who was minister of justice then, but his request remained without any response.

Ilie Rotaru said that in 2022 he notified the senior state officials of the mimicking of reforms in the justice sector by Sergiu Litvinenco and Olesea Stamate, but his notification was also ignored. The approach was made after the PAS MPs adopted a strategy on the independence and integrity of the justice sector, which was promoted by the two, but which was written in 2015-2017 by Vladimir Plahotniuc’s men. Therefore, a reform in the justice sector is no way done. They rather implement what Vladimir Plahotniuc aimed to do.

The lawyer also said that he asked for an audience with President Maia Sandu for informing her about the rigging of contests to fill senior public posts, but he was told that the issue is not within the President’s remit and his request was rejected.

According to Ilie Rotaru, the contest to fill the post of judge at the Constitutional Court was a mockery. He also criticized the contest to create the commission for the selection of judges of the Supreme Court of Justice. According to him, three foreign, unknown persons will choose members of the SCJ and this is not right and the situation should be changed.
