Ilie Rotaru, who earlier worked as a lawyer and now heads the Public Association “Citizens for Rights of Children, Invalids and Pensioners”, suggested establishing the legality of the last criminal cases sent to court by each anticorruption prosecutor. Accusing these prosecutors of fabricating criminal cases, Ilie Rotaru said such an exercise would show how judicious their actions were.

“Let’s examine by ten cases of each anticorruption prosecutor, which were sent to court in the recent past, so as to see which of them were started legally and reasonably. I sent many letters to the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and asked for an audience. I also wrote to the President of the Republic of Moldova, the Premier and the prosecutor general, to the anticorruption prosecutor and sent to them a lot of materials, but didn’t receive any response,Ilie Rotaru stated in a news conference at IPN.

Ilie Rotaru called on the citizens who met with the fabrication of cases to come to the Public Association “Citizens for Rights of Children, Invalids and Pensioners” where they will be supported and encouraged to go on. The evidence will be made public and it will be proven in public how the prosecutors fabricate criminal cases.

In another development, the Association’s head said that nobody wants to speak about the real problems in the justice system and, in general, about the problems related to reforms in Moldova. According to Ilie Rotaru, the justice system cannot be independent because it forms part of the four state powers: legislative, executive, judicial and the fourth estate – the press. “The powers in our country need to cooperate, not to control each other. There is the counterbalance system that works in the United States and Europe,” said Ilie Rotaru.

He noted that the prosecutors are not a component part of the justice system. “The prosecutors are participants in the trial, while justice is administered only by judges. The Prosecutor’s Office is a component part of the executive power,” he stated.
