Fugitive politician Ilan Shor admits that he finances political projects in Chisinau and says that he will continue supporting the political projects that will fight against the regime of Sandu as this brought poverty to Moldova, destroying it as a state. The ex-MP noted that he does this legally. The statements were made after former MP Arina Spătaru said that Shor tried to buy her, IPN reports.

The fugitive politician, who was convicted in the bank fraud case, said that his money comes from his business projects. The authorities, which say that these are ill-gotten gains, will not admit that these are legal resources or they will have to also recognize the legality of all his deeds.

As to Arina Spătaru’s assertion that Shor dances to the Kremlin’s tune, Shor said that this is a myth or, if this was true, he would have been in Moscow, where his family is. He yet has to stay in the place where he met with Arina Spătaru and with many other Moldovan politicians and functionaries.

The ex-MP does not consider that he does something illegal by offering financing. He said the European funds allocated for implementing infrastructure projects are similar and the only difference is that the European money is lent.

Former MP Arina Spătaru, who heads the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe in Moldova, said that in April she denounced MP Alexandr Nesterovschi, who tried “to buy her for Ilan Shor”. More details about the case to which Arina Spătaru referred were presented by prosecutors in the Parliament sitting in which Irina Lozovan and Alexandr Nesterovschi were stripped of parliamentary immunity. The two MPs were arrested on charges of illegal financing for the party accepted from an organized criminal group led by Ilan Shor.

Moldovan politician Ilan Shor, who was born in Israel, returned to this state after 2019. He was meanwhile sentenced to 15 years in jail in Moldova in the bank fraud case and is now on the sanctions lists of the U.S., the UK and the EU for his pro-Russian activity amidst the war in Ukraine. Chisinau asked for his extradition, but hasn’t achieved any result so far.
