The Independent Journalism Center (IJC) is launching a campaign to support the petition demanding allowing the journalists to enter the assembly hall of Parliament to attend the sittings. By the petition, the legislature’s administration is requested to fulfill the promise to create better work conditions for the journalists accredited to Parliament so that they can freely perform their professional duties, IPN reports.
According to representatives of the IJC, the limitation of journalists’ access to the sittings of Parliament and the fact that they have to stay in a room without appropriate work conditions represent violations of the right to free expression and of the right to work. This is also against the principle of transparency in decision-making.
The petition can be signed by all those who defend and promote the freedom of the media and access to information and who support the creation of decent work conditions for journalists.
After the Parliament Building was renovated, the journalists can no longer attend the legislative body’s sittings. They watch the sittings on monitors installed in a room intended for the media.
