As Moldovans prepare to celebrate Julian-calendar Christmas, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations is calling on the general public to observe safety precautions. In particular, the IGSU is urging people in charge of places of worship to strictly adhere to fire safety rules and have primary extinguishing equipment at the ready.
Firefighters stress that in order to prevent fires in churches, cathedrals and monasteries, stoves and chimneys must be properly checked and operated. Emergency evacuation plans must be displayed in visible places. Churchgoers are asked to make sure they don’t block access paths to emergency vehicles.
Citizens are asked to use candles with maximum caution, which must be kept in special places. To prevent fires, it is strongly advised to avoid turning multiple appliances on so as not to overload the house wiring.
Over this weekend, more than 400 IGSU officers will be ready to respond to emergencies.
