“We all realize that during the 2020-2021 academic year, we will together face the most serious challenges in education. Staying together means combining again the forces of the Ministry of Education, Education Divisions, managers, teachers, parents and the whole community. The key word for students and teachers, directors and parents is “responsibility”,” Minister of Education, Culture and Research Igor Sharov stated in a press briefing, being quoted by IPN.

According to the presented data, of the 1,252 public and private primary and secondary education institutions, 1,233 reopened physically by using different study organization forms. Nineteen institutions didn’t open physically. Eleventh of them are in quarantine, while eight remained closed for different reasons, including because they didn’t meet some of the conditions imposed by the National Public Health Agency. These will reopen after September 7 or 14.

Of the seven proposed models, Model No. 1 that implies full presence was chosen by 80 education institutions. Model No. 2, learning by shifts, was picked by 105 schools. Model No. 3, combined learning, was implemented by three institutions and Model No. 4, hybrid, was selected by six institutions. Model No. 6, online learning, which is a temporary one, is applied by 19 institutions. Model No. 7 is used by 314 institutions.

Of the 1,398 public kindergartens, 404 reopened. 994 early education institutions are waiting for the reopening decision.

The technical vocational education institutions and universities during the first two weeks of the academic year will apply online learning.

An order was signed to set up a national group for coordinating safety in education that will consist of representatives of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, the WHO Country Office in Moldova, general education divisions, directors of institutions, trade unions, UNICEF, the National Center for Psychopedagogical Assistance, representatives of the National Student Council and parents.

Igor Sharov said the group will hold debates on the implementation of the regulations at education institutions, will formulate notices, opinions, recommendations for student councils and will activate debates with trade unions.
