The Republic of Moldova should urgently align itself with the regime of sanctions (Global Accountability Magnitsky Act) and should fully apply these with regard to Vladimir Plahotniuc and Ilan Shor and in all the spheres in which the two oligarchs have material interests, the former Ambassador of Moldova to the U.S. Igor Munteanu said in reaction to the antigovernment protests staged in central Chisinau, IPN reports.
Igor Munteanu calls on the parliamentary majesty to adopt a Magnitsky Act, reminding of a relevant bill he proposed earlier. He recommends the Moldovan authorities to urgently adopt an anti-crisis plan for preventing and anticipating all the sources of political destabilization and this plan should be made known to the public and those concerned. The ex-ambassador also recommends using the Moldova Support Platform conference that will take place in Paris in November to identify sufficient financial resources to subsidies the price of electricity. “Following the example of Romania, which covers 70% of the cost of the energy market, the Moldovan state should assume interventions through grants and loans,” he stated.
Munteanu noted that the Republic of Moldova urgently needs a plan for immediately detaching itself from the energy networks of the Transnistrian region and should give up the useless meetings of tired officials (1+1 format) in which the Republic of Moldova loses credibility and precious time instead of imposing an respectful attitude on the chiefs of this regime. Igor Munteanu, together with the group of experts he represents, said that he is ready to consult the Government on each of these priorities.
He stated that the Shor mafia uses the social dissatisfaction to destroy the PAS Government by exploiting the high prices of electricity. Another goal of the protest is to condemn the attempt to identify a ”non-Russian” alternative for the natural gas. The coordinators from the Kremlin pursue similar goals.
“Yesterday’s protest wouldn’t have taken place if the responsible bodies of the Republic of Moldova had cut on time the sources of financing of the Shor group that had strengthened itself during the past ten years following rigged contests to concede “bus stations and terminals” to the mafia through intermediaries and all kinds of real estate mastodons financed with elusive sources,” said Moldova’s ex-Ambassador to the United States Igor Munteanu.
