In the Republic of Moldova, there are good prosecutors and judges, but they should take courage, said Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu, who called on the prosecutors not to be afraid of vetting and to take the integrity and professionalism assessment test. The official noted that prosecutors’ salaries will be increased and the working conditions will be improved after they pass the extraordinary assessment, IPN reports.
The Speaker praised the employees of the National Anticorruption Center (NAC), an entity that he says is making progress in the fight against systemic corruption. Igor Grosu said that he is also waiting for results from the anticorruption prosecutors.
“We have to put pressure on them. At the same time, we must also reform these institutions and demand from them. Do you want better conditions? We’ll give them to you! Do you want better salaries? We will give them to you, but pass the assessment first. They must show that they are doing something. The NAC, for example, once, twice a week, finds corrupt persons. Big, small, medium, but finds them, with permits, certificates, constructions. Now with Interpol. It seems that something started at the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. When there will be results, we will praise them. But when there are no actions, I have no other option than to criticize them, to ask them to account for what they do,” Igor Grosu stated in the program “The Shadow Cabinet” on JurnalTV.
The Speaker called upon the good prosecutors and judges from the system to show more courage. He said that only through the vetting exercise, will it be possible to clean up the system. He called on all those concerned to take the extraordinary assessment.
“There are good prosecutors and judges. What I and the whole society expect from them is that they show more courage. I think there are good people in the system, but they have to take courage. I take the opportunity and tell them that no one will clean our house for us. As for the prosecutors who leave, it’s their decision. Everyone decides. Ladies and gentlemen, you have to pass this exercise. There are prosecutors who passed it. Nothing happened,” noted Igor Grosu.
Recently, the Prosecutor General’s Office announced that nine prosecutors from the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office tendered their resignations after they had been notified of the initiation of the external assessment process. The chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Veronica Dragalin confirmed that one of the resigning prosecutors was handling the bank fraud case.
