Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu congratulated Moldovan citizens on the occasion of the Romanian Language Day and laid flowers at the busts of Romanian writers on the Alley of Classics in Chisinau. He was accompanied by the Deputy Parliament Speaker, Mihai Popșoi, and other colleagues from the Action and Solidarity Party.

Igor Grosu said that this is an important day, when we must remember those who, 32 years ago, took a historic decision to restore the status and place of the Romanian language and of the Latin spelling. There is still much to be done, said the Speaker. "We still have to change the article in the Constitution and we still have the duty to promote the Romanian language, not just to remember it during these holidays, although this holiday is also important. Let's help those who don't know the language, because some citizens still need this help", Igor Grosu added.

Responding to questions, Igor Grosu said that in order to replace the terms "Moldovan language" with "Romanian language" in Article 13 of the Constitution, two thirds of the votes in Parliament are required. It is uncertain whether the missing votes will be identified, although the initiative is a good one which the speaker hopes will happen soon.

After the laying of flowers, the Speaker will travel to Bucharest, where he will take part in events celebrating the Romanian language.

August 31 became a holiday in 1990 under the name: "Our Romanian Language" or "Romanian Language Day". In 1994, the agrarian administration decided to change the name to "Our Language".
