President Igor Dodon said the initiative group in support of his candidacy already collected the signatures needed to enter the race for the November 1 presidential elections, but these will be submitted to the central electoral authority later. He noted he will not take part in electoral debates, at least until November 1, IPN reports.
“We have already collected the necessary signatures. My colleagues dealing with the collection of signatures reported that the 25,000 signatures were collected. We will not hurry to submit them. Probably tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, our colleagues from the staff will verify each list apart and the signatures will be submitted next week or in a week given that the deadline is September 30 and we still have time,” Igor Dodon stated in a special edition on Prime TV in the evening of September 16.
He noted he will run independently as the legislation provides that the President cannot be member of a party and cannot become involved in the activity of a party and vice versa. “That’s why, in order to exclude risks, legal interpretations and possible attacks on the result, which I think will be favorable to us, after the elections and when the Constitutional Court will have to approve this result, I considered this is the legally correct and less risky solution,” stated President Dodon. He admitted that the Party of Socialists will give its support to him.
Igor Dodon noted that in the upcoming election campaign, he will not mention the names of election runners as the people are not interested in mutual accusations. He wants all the electoral contenders to come with concrete things so as to develop the state.
The official also said he decided not to take part in electoral debates, at least until November 1, and not to use advertisements to promote himself in the campaign as it is cynical to spend money on these amid the pandemic and draught.
