President Igor Dodon said the current parliamentary majority formed by the Socialists and the Democrats is a solid one as it consists of 54 MPs, plus an MP who supports the current Government. He expressed his conviction that the Socialists will overcome all the challenges related to the attempts to attract them to other parties and voiced hope that those from the PDM will do the same, IPN reports.

In the program “President Responds”, President Dodon said he has information that a number of Socialist and Democratic MPs are being persuaded by their colleagues from Parliament, from the Pro Moldova group and the Shor Party, to have discussions or reach understandings. “I want to warn those who resort to influence peddling in order to attract MPs from these groups - when you see the prosecutor near you, don’t be surprised,” he stated.

According to him, the given politicians will be harshly penalized for such approaches, including because they try now to do politics in Moldova with money of the stolen bank funds. There is information that representatives of the two parties travel to districts and offer by US$ 10,000 to mayors of the PDM so that these join them. They also offer by 1,000 – 2,000 lei to village councilors and by 20,000 – 30,000 to district councilors.

Igor Dodon also presented several possible scenarios of the developments: the parliamentary majority is either maintained or a new parliamentary majority is formed with the leaving of six MPs (Maia Sandu, Andrei Năstase, Shor, Candu and several turncoats who theoretically can remove the Government), and the third scenarios – snap parliamentary elections. “It would be good to adopt, before the next snap parliamentary elections, a law by which we would ban the switching of MPs in Parliament,” stated the official.

President Dodon noted that Ilan Shor and Adrian Candu are the men of Vladimir Plahotniuc and their goal is to have a group of at least 25 people in Parliament so that the PSRM-PDM coalition does not have a majority and to then start to negotiate the voting of laws and other aspects. For the purpose, they need 5-6 more MPs. “This is what Plahotniuc did in 2010, when he oscillated between Voronin and Filat. Where are they and their parties now?” asked Igor Dodon.
