Igor Dodon has signed the first legislative initiative as Head of State. “I call on Parliament to include the examination of the legislative initiative in the agenda as a matter of urgency and to annul the law that makes the repayment of the money stolen in an unprecedented way the people’s burden. There are many other solutions that I’m ready to discuss, but I’m categorically against making the current and next generations responsible for repaying this money,” Igor Dodon says in a post on Facebook, IPN reports.

According to Igor Dodon, the ‘theft of the century’ generated fluctuations on the currency market, weakening significantly the purchasing power of the leu, had and continues to have significant repercussions for the state budget, led to the blocking of the growth rates of pensions and salaries. The population will feel the negative effects during a long period if the situation does not change in the nearest future.

“I reiterate my position on this matter – the stolen billions must be returned by all those who took part in the fraud, voted for or knew this, but preferred to keep silent. Numerous state functionaries, officials in charge from financial-banking institutions who were to combat this theft, but did nothing and preferred to hide it bear all equal responsibility,” reads the President’s message.

On September 26, 2016, the Government assumed responsibility for the draft law that, in essence, envisions the conversion of the guarantees provided in 2014 and 2015 for the loans released by the National Bank of Moldova to Banca de Economii, Banca Sociala and Unibank into state debt.
