The President of Moldova Igor Dodon said the healthcare system is ready to cope with about 2,000 cases of infection with the novel coronavirus. However, according to him, such a figure will not be reached in Moldova and the data of the WHO confirm this, IPN reports.

“We are ready to cope. We instructed to get ready for 1,500 – 2,000 cases. In Chisinau, 1,000 places are available and in districts places were also allotted, in case we witness the worst scenario. The WHO said we will not reach such a figure,” Igor Dodon stated in the talk show “Key Issue” on NTV Moldova channel.

He noted that from technical viewpoint, there are no reasons for panic as the doctors have all the necessary equipment.

“In Chisinau, we have over 500 mechanical ventilation machines. Of the 66 persons who have been infected in Moldova by this moment, only two needed such machines. Respectively, if we hypothetically have 2,000 cases, only 600 patients will need assisted ventilation,” stated President Dodon.

He also said that the healthcare system was supplied with test strips for detecting the infection and with medicines for treating those infected.

“We have test kits. As to the personnel, I checked what kind of specialists we need and established that we are ready to cope. The test kits are coming from China. We bought several tens of thousands of such kits and experience no problems in this regard.“

According to Igor Dodon, the situation in the county is now positive in relation to the expectations the authorities had.
