Some 27% of the respondents of a poll would vote for incumbent President Igor Dodon in the presidential elections of 2020. Over 15% of those polled would pick the president of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu, while about 5% - the leader of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Andrei Năstase. The poll was carried out by Date Inteligente SRL (iData) during January 22 and February 3 and covered 1,013 respondents from 231 localities, including 40 towns and 191 villages.

In a news conference at IPN, iData executive director Mihai Bologan said the poll shows the voters of the right are fragmented as a lot of answers were given to an open question. “There is no clear common candidate of the right, but Maia Sandu could ultimately be that candidate,” stated the director.

If Igor Dodon and Maia Sandu competed in the runoffs, over 43% would vote for Dodon and 33% for Sandu. The other respondents said they haven’t yet decided. iData earlier presented an electoral barometer where similar questions were put to a group of 20 experts. Three quarters of them said the elections would be won by Igor Dodon. In an eventual duel with Andrei Năstase, the incumbent President would win even by the first round. Two experts of 20 said Andrei Năstase would emerge victorious.

Among political personalities, over 37% of the respondents of the current poll said they trust President Igor Dodon the most. 26% trust Maia Sandu, 24% mayor general of Chisinau Ion Ceban, whereas 23% Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi.

Some 55% of those surveyed said parliamentary elections this year will not take place or will most probably not take place. The experts said snap elections this year will most probably not be held. Over 47% of the respondents said the next parliamentary elections should be held based on the mixed system, while 34% are for the proportional representation system. Most of the experts chose the proportional representation system.

If parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, the Party of Socialists, the Party “Action and Solidarity”, the Democratic Party, the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” and the Shor Party would enter Parliament. The experts picked the first three parties. They said that in case of snap elections, the Party of Socialists would gain most of the votes, while the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” would win less.

About 65% of those interviewed said the direction followed by Moldova is incorrect, while over 25% believe the direction is correct. 28% said the living standards became better or much better, about 34% said they are the same, while 36% said they are worse or much worse.

Mihai Bologan said the poll was conducted with own funds.
