Igor Dodon will be fielded by the Communist Party as a candidate for mayor of Chisinau. His candidacy was approved by a unanimous vote in the April 2 plenary meeting of the PCRM, the party’s leader Vladimir Voronin announced after the event that was held behind closed doors, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vladimir Voronin said that Igor Dodon was selected owing to his professionalism, competence and human qualities. He stressed that the PCRM does not have serious opponents in the campaign for the mayoralty of Chisinau. “There are no other candidates than Chirtoaca, but he occupied the post accidentally,” said Vladimir Voronin, expressing his confidence that Igor Dodon may poll 90% of the votes in Chisinau. The Communist leader also said that the party’s political executive earlier designated three more candidates for mayor of Chisinau, besides Igor Dodon, but the plenary meeting chose the last candidate. He avoided saying who the other candidates were. The decisions of the PCRM’s political executive are not for the mass media, he stated. After the meeting, Igor Dodon said it was an honor for him to run for the mayoralty of Chisinau on behalf of a party that enjoys the greatest trust. “The city has been in a terrible condition during four years. We must remedy the situation,” he stressed. The PCRM also designated 56 candidates for member of the Chisinau Municipal Council. Vladimir Voronin said the order of the candidates on the list will be decided in a week. He predicted that the Communist Party will have at least 30 representatives in the Chisinau Council after the June 5 elections.
