President Igor Dodon invited the Party of Socialists (PSRM), the Democratic Party (PDM) and the electoral bloc ACUM to discussions on the formation of a parliamentary majority or on the possible snap elections. The leaders of the three parties were invited to come in turn to the State Residence situated on Nicolae Iorga St on March 26, IPN reports.

In a press briefing, Igor Dodon said he arranged a meeting with the president of the PSRM Zinaida Grecheanyi for 2pm, another meeting with the leader of the PDM Vlad Plahotniuc for 3pm and one more meeting with the ACUM bloc leaders Andrei Năstase and Maia Sandu for 4pm.

“The political parties that entered Parliament and won the people’s vote of confidence on February 24 do not want to discuss between them,” said President Dodon. He noted a ‘political vacuum’ situation appeared in Moldova and this cannot last long.

Under the Constitution, if laws are not adopted in Parliament during three months, the President, after consultations with the parliamentary groups, can dissolve the legislative body and announce snap elections. However, Igor Dodon said that “we cannot wait for three months”. “Therefore, serious discussions are needed with the parties that can form a parliamentary majority so as to take a very clear decision. A parliamentary majority is formed and the Parliament is convoked in several weeks to elect its administration or the parties say it sincerely that they do not want to discuss with anyone and snap elections will be thus called,” stated President Igor Dodon.
