“I voted for the independence and statehood of the Republic of Moldova. I believe in this country’s future. I believe in the future of the Republic of Moldova. I voted for peace and interethnic harmony. I voted for improvements as we need high-quality changes, not shocks and crises, and these will be ensured,” independent candidate for President Igor Dodon, who is supported by the Party of Socialists, stated after marking his ballot, IPN reports.
Igor Dodon said he voted for social equity, economic development, balance in the foreign relations. He noted he does not want the Republic of Moldova to become a pawn in the international geopolitical game. He voted for friendship with the European Union and the Russian Federation, for friendship with Romania and Ukraine, for the memory of those who guarded this country, for the traditional, Christian values.
The candidate stated he is glad that the citizens are more active today and show patriotism, no matter where they are. Asked about the reported instances of organized transportation of voters from the left side of the Nistru, Igor Dodon said it goes to double standards and approaches. “If in Germany, in Stuttgart or Frankfurt, they come from a distance of 300 km, it is patriotism, while those who come from Transnistria from a distance of 5 km are separatists. Everyone has the right to vote, regardless of their whereabouts,” he stated.
At the polling station, Igor Dodon was accompanied by his wife. Galina Dodon said that she voted for a prosperous country dominated by wellbeing, peace and harmony.
Polling stations in Moldova are open until 9pm. In the runoff vote, the elections are declared valid regardless of the voter turnout. The candidate with the highest score is declared winner. If both of the candidates get the same score, the candidate who gained more votes in the first round emerges victorious.
