“Today is an important day and not only because we elect the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. Today’s vote matters as it will decide who will rule in the immediate period. It will be a responsible, professional government that thinks about the country or it will be a government that will surrender the country to foreigners,” said the Socialist leader Igor Dodon, who runs for MP on behalf of the electoral bloc formed by the Party of Socialists and the Party of Communists, IPN reports.

When going out of the polling station, Igor Dodon said he voted for those who will ensure peace in the country. “I want to call on our compatriots to vote actively in today’s elections for the future of our country. The parties of the right ruled during almost 2/3 of the period of 30 years of independence. The parties of the right had a majority in Parliament and we know what this ended with, in the 1990s and after 2009. I urge you to vote for those who take care of the Republic of Moldova, for those who know to build, not to steal billions,” stated the Socialist leader.

Igor Dodon came to the polling station together with his family. His eldest son voted for the first time. Vladislav Dodon said that being a student, he does not think much about politics, but he voted for Moldova’s future, for an independent country in which he can develop.

Polling stations are open until 9pm. For the elections to be validated, the voter turnout should be of 1/3 of the citizens eligible to vote. The election threshold for a party is 5%, for an electoral bloc is 7%, while for independent candidates is 2%.
