The parliamentary group of the Socialists suggested that the Alliance for European Integration should find an apolitical presidential candidate for the new elections until December 23. The group’s leader Igor Dodon told the journalists that if the alliance does not identify a consensus candidate by Friday, the Party of Socialists will take a decision that will be made public by the end of this week, Info-Prim Neo reports. “What happened on December 16 showed that the alliance is not able to elect the head of state. From yesterday, when I was elected chairman of the Party of Socialists, I have the power to maintain the position that we will not vote for Marian Lupu. Until December 23, we will wait to open the negotiations and find a consensus candidate,” said the lawmaker. The position of the parliamentary group of the Socialists as regards the election of the head of state, called Common Sense Ultimatum, was also published on the MP’s blog dodon.md “It turned out that not even the ruling alliance wants Marian Lupu to be elected head of state. It is evident for practically everyone that fielding again the AEI’s candidate means intentionally causing early elections. After assuming such a detrimental government, the AEI must assume responsibility for provoking early elections,” reads the statement. “We will categorically not vote for a candidate put forward by the AEI. But we are ready to hold talks with the AEI and the PCRM so as to identify an apolitical candidature who can become a consensus candidate for most of the parliamentary groups.” The three lawmakers of the group of Socialists on Decembers 16 voted against Marian Lupu. Earlier, Igor Dodon proposed Zinaida Greceanyi for the post of President of Moldova.
