The leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said the snap parliamentary elections this year are inevitable and his party is ready for them, but he doubts that the elections will be held on July 11. Even so, they will apply to be registered as an electoral contender next week – either the PSRM separately or in an electoral bloc together with the Party of Communists, IPN reports.

In his Friday live program, Igor Dodon said President Maia Sandu hurried to dissolve Parliament. In several weeks, the number of infections with COVID-19 will rise and he would like to see the President’s arguments then. There is no money in the state budget for these elections and it would be a mistake to take money from the state reserve for the purpose.

As to the call to the center-left parties to combine forces, the leader of the PSRM said he sent a letter to the president of the PCRM Vladimir Voronin and invited them to form an electoral bloc. Voronin criticized them and they criticized him, but such things should remain in the past as the population’s interests are now more important and the country should be saved.

In another development, Igor Dodon said the former Romanian MP Cristian Rizea received Moldovan nationality in 2017 without the President’s consent and in breach of the law. He does not know him and didn’t meet him. He considers those who were convicted in their countries should be extradited legally home.

Asked what holiday he will celebrate on May 9 – Europe Day or Victory Day, the Socialist leader said May 9 for him has always been the Day of Victory. “We are obliged to keep this in mind. I saw that particular public organizations intend to stage a Victory March in Chisinau on May 9. If I’m able to, I will definitely take part,” stated Igor Dodon.

He also said that despite the pandemic, the citizens should be able to go to cemeteries on May 9 and 10 and the restrictions should be thus lifted.
