Incumbent President Igor Dodon, who runs for a new term in office, said the electoral system and the senior administration yesterday proved that they can organize free, fair and democratic elections. “Does the result suit you now? Don’t you speak about falsifications?” asked Igor Dodon, addressing his opponents.

Igor Dodon thanked again the citizens who voted actively in the presidential elections and those who supported him
. “We saw rather good mobilization inside the country and I hope the mobilization for the runoff vote will be better,” he stated.

Igor Dodon announced that he will go again on leave for the election campaign and will provide details about the steps that he will take together with his team for the runoff in a press beefing on November 3.

He congratulated the PAS leader Maia Sandu for reaching the runoff, noting they will soon meet at electoral debates. “I saw that the diaspora was very active in these elections, but the political preferences of the diaspora are in dissonance with the preferences of the largest part of the citizens, who live and work at home,” stated Igor Dodon.

He expressed his conviction that the citizens in Moldova will mobilize extensively on November 15 and will ensure his victory. “We cannot allow destabilization. We will not allow those who want to hold the office of President to be external marionettes,” noted Igor Dodon.

With 100% of the ballots cast in the country counted, the results are as follows: the PAS candidate Maia Sandu gained 36.16% of the vote, while independent candidate Igor Dodon, who is supported by the Party of Socialists, won 32.61% of the vote. After counting the votes of the Moldovans abroad, Maia Sandu is shown to be the leader with 70.12% of the poll, being followed by Renato Usatyi with 17.25% and Igor Dodon with 3.65% of the ballot.
