President Igor Dodon said that he discussed the agenda of the meeting planned for the end of July with the leader of the Transnistrian region Vadim Krasnoselski. He noted that he also discussed the problem of the temporary checkpoints that were put up by the Transnistrian side in the Security Zone at end-March in a move to fight the coronavirus pandemic, IPN reports.

“According to the information provided by Tiraspol, 31 checkpoints were created initially. After the state of emergency was lifted, the number was reduced to 16. The Transnistrian side announced that the number crossings of the so-called “border” during the state of emergency was of about 3,000 a day on average, which is three times less than before the introduction of quarantine,” Igor Dodon posted on Facebook.

He noted that the principled position of Chisinau is to continue to implement confidence-building measures and a constructive dialogue, to restore the free movement of the people living on both sides of the Nistru, which worked before the introduction of the quarantine measures due to the pandemic.

MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity earlier today said the illegal checkpoints set up in the Security Zone on the pretext of the pandemic will most probably remain there after the pandemic too. According to them, President Igor Dodon does not come with a reaction and is ready to concede even those villages of Dubăsari district so as to get personal advantages – votes in the Transnistria region.
