President Igor Dodon said the Transnistrian issue will not be on the agenda of the government during the next one year or one year and a half as the conjuncture for resolving the dispute is now unfavorable. He developed the issue in the talk show “Fourth power” on N4 TV channel, IPN reports.
According to President Dodon, consensus is needed inside the country and at international level for this problem to be solved. “It’s clear that an internal consensus without foreign consensus will not lead to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. We should first see how we can solve this problem at domestic level, in the Government, Parliament and Presidential Office, and to then persuade the foreign partners,” he said.
He noted that the scarecrows about Moldova’s federalization should be left aside. The idea of federalization hasn’t even been on the agenda. “There cannot be a Russian plan for Moldova as this would be blocked by Europe and the U.S. There cannot be an American plan for Transnistria as this would be blocked by Russia. There should be a consensus,” stated Igor Dodon.
He also said that the social problems faced by the residents of the Transnistrian region should be now addressed, including those related to schools, registration numbers, telephone connection and farmland.
In another development, President Dodon said changes will be instituted at the Prosecutor General’s Office and there are a number of methods for bringing about changes, including by amending the legislation.
As to the former Constitutional Court judges, he said the fact that these accepted to play the game of the Democratic Party led the country close to a civil war that could entail bloodshed. “In this situation, it is their blame that is equal to the blame of the PDM. They allowed to be used like instruments,” stated Igor Dodon, adding the former judges will start to say who actually gave them instructions.
