The president of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said the Constitutional Court’s decision of March 22, by which the decree to designate Igor Grosu for premiership was declared constitutional, practically formalized a constitutional state coup, with the Court modifying its own decision of February 23, which clearly stipulates the decisive role of the parliamentary majority, IPN reports.

According to Igor Dodon, the CC’s decision transforms the Republic of Moldova from a parliamentary republic into a presidential republic, where the final decision is taken by the President, not by Parliament. “Regrettably, today’s decision will have negative effects on constitutional jurisprudence and on the citizens,” Igor Dodon posted on Facebook.

He noted that the executive of the PSRM will convene on March 23 to decide the next steps. The PSRM’s position remains unchanged, namely that those who will dissolve Parliament and will trigger snap elections should assume responsibility for the human losses due to the pandemic, which are inevitable.

The Constitutional Court rejected the challenge filed by the Socialist MPs, ruling that the presidential decree by which Igor Grosu was designated as a candidate for premiership is constitutional. The Court’s decision is definitive, cannot be challenged, takes effect when it is adopted and is published in the Official Gazette.
