The President of Moldova Igor Dodon said that any attempt to dismiss the current Government inevitably leads to snap elections. At the same time, he noted the probably of having snap parliamentary elections this year is very low and only two parliamentary parties want such a scenario – the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) and the Shor Party, IPN reports.

President Dodon said the PAS wants snap parliamentary elections in order to “get rid” of the partner from the ACUM Bloc – the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”. The Shor Party needs a restructuring. It’s better to use the 80 million lei that is needed for holding snap parliamentary elections for social purposes. “Those who will cause snap parliamentary elections should assume responsibility. I think the Socialists are ready for them, but these should be better avoided,” the official stated in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.

He noted that he will most probably run in the upcoming presidential elections, but didn’t say if he intends to run independently or on behalf of the Party of Socialists. He underlined he enjoys the people’s support and this will motivate him to run.

In another development, Igor Dodon said the assessment of judges will be the key element of the justice sector reform and the judges who will not pass this stage will leave the system. “The assessment will cover all aspects – integrity, incomes, costs. Those who will not pass will leave the system. I think many will leave before the assessment. When similar assessments were carried out in other countries, many judges resigned and left the system when the criteria were only set,” he explained.

According to President Dodon, the justice sector reform with judges and prosecutors who held high office at the time of the oligarchic government cannot be done. “These must be replaced with new people and the system includes such people. These are honest people who until now were ignored because they didn’t want to serve the system and were kept in inferior posts or in districts. We must see which of them are good and promote them,” he stated.
