The opposition pursues its political goals. After taking part in the polarization of the public opinion on the European Union and the Eurasian Union, the PCRM cannot change its option before the elections as it would lose its voters,” political analyst Igor Boţan said, commenting on the Communists’ press statement on the Association Agreement with the EU.

Contacted by IPN, Igor Botan said that this statement is addressed not to the whole society, but to Igor Dodon’s party and other leftwing politicians who assert that Vladimir Voronin’s party changed its option.

As to the national referendum on which the PCRM insisted, the analyst said the European Union in its history signed about 70 Association Agreements and there was held no plebiscite on the issue in the signatory states or in the EU. “Maybe the PCRM wants the EU to also hold a referendum on the signing of the accord with Moldova, so as to level things?” said Igor Botan.

According to the analyst, it will be easy four the government to refute the assertions of the Communists, with elegance and arguments, if it initiates the announced mass information events.

A press statement issued by the Political Executive of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (PCRM) says that this accord is an artificial one, does not represent the country’s interests and does not reflect Moldova’s development problems. The Communist formulated several rhetorical questions, such as “Can the head of a Government with a popularity rating of 20%, consisting mainly of ministers recognized by the Constitutional Court as corrupt, sign this accord?”, “Why was the matter concerning the country’s territorial integrity ignored at a time when the place of the Transnistrian region in this accord is not defined?”, and “Why were they afraid to put the draft accord up for examination in a national referendum?”. The Political Executive obliged the party bodies to stage mass information events to familiarize the people with all the noxious effects that will appear after the signing and implementation of the Association Agreement.
