The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are rather serious for society, also because it is expected that the economy will decline by about 6%, which is more than it was initially anticipated. At global level, the decline can be even more serious. More problems derive from here. As a result of this pandemic, the unemployment rate in Moldova and not only increases and other problems related to the business climate appear, expert Igor Boțan stated in the public debate “Moldovan society amid pandemic: lessons learned, lessons to be learned”, which was staged by IPN News Agency.
“In such conditions, the people have to self-isolate longer and have more time to meditate on unsolved things. Among the things and phenomena generated by this pandemic were the adjustment to distance learning through information technology and extension of online trade. The governors, and not only those in the Republic of Moldova, had to ultimately fully review the activity of the health system,” stated Igor Boțan, who is the standing expert of IPN’s project.
He noted that analyzing the consequences of the pandemic, it was determined that the unemployment phenomenon expanded in Moldova and in other states. Another problem is related to the Moldovan diaspora as a large part of the citizens working abroad returned home and need to find a job to earn their living. The economic crisis is pending.
According to the expert, besides the budget deficit, there are big problems related to the business climate as it is known that the business entities were seriously affected by the pandemic. All these things happen amid political turbulence determined by the approaching presidential elections.
In another development, Igor Boțan referred to the conspiracy theories that are broadly discussed in society. There is the version that the novel coronavirus was created in labs for particular purposes. The consequences derive from here, including the reaction of the Church, to particular new technologies as well.
“We must admit that when such situations appear, it is very important to realize that the scientific research done to combat this virus and to find the antidote, the vaccine are also broadly debated. The issue of the 5G antennas is added to these. So, a complex of factors derive and lay this foundation of the conspiracy theory,” he explained.
According to him, the scientific researches and the new technologies should be attentively tackled and the people should not easily believe such conspiracy theories.
