The citizens of the Republic of Moldova eligible to vote can vote using the identity card with the loose leaf showing that the holder has the domicile or residence on the territory of the polling place. The security stamp “Elections 30.10.2016” will also be applied on the loose leaf in the upcoming elections. The model is to be approved by the Central Election Commission.

Also, the persons can vote using the temporary identity card with mentions about the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova and the domicile of the holder. In the previous elections, on the election day all the document issuing sections of the state-run Information Resources Center “Registru” worked according to an extended program, from 7am until 9pm, and issued temporary identity cards as well.

The right to vote can also be exercised based on the soldier’s work permit or the soldier’s record issued by the Civil Service Center to persons who do the alternative civil service. The persons who are abroad can vote using the passport of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova or, in case of sailors, the sailor’s record.

The Central Election Commission warns that the Soviet passport of the model of 1974 can no longer be used to vote.

According to the data presented by the Information Resources Center “Registru”, almost 236,000 people didn’t possess valid identification documents or these were expired on September 20. These include those who possess only passport and do not have an identity card.
