Victoria Furtună contends in the presidential election as an independent candidate, being supported by a group of citizens.
The candidate was born on February 24, 1981 in Hâncești town. In 2003, she graduated from the Free International University of Moldova, the Faculty of Law. Three years later, she entered the justice system as a prosecutor in the Nisporeni District Prosecutor’s Office. After a few years, she was transferred to the Botanica Prosecutor’s Office of Chisinau municipality. In 2016, she was appointed prosecutor in the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
Victoria Furtună represented the state prosecution in the paid parking case that featured the former mayor of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoacă, as well as in the case of the former Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Yuri Kirinchuk, who was accused of influence peddling and abuse of office.
In October 2021, after the arrest and suspension from office of Alexandr Stoianoglo, Victoria Furtună, together with Dumitru Robu, were designated by the Superior Council of Prosecutors to hold the position of prosecutor general on an interim basis. Following the competition, the position went to Dumitru Robu.
After 18 years of work in the prosecutor’s office, Victoria Furtună scandalously resigned in March 2024. Among the reasons invoked was the disagreement with the subduing of the justice system by the ruling party. Victoria Furtună said that the Security and Intelligence Service considered her “a threat to national security” and limited her access to a file regarding “the illegal actions of a group of people who commit illegalities in the judicial system of the Republic of Moldova”.
In April 2024, Victoria Furtună announced the creation of the public association “Vox Populi, Vox Dei”, with the declared mission of monitoring and revealing major cases of corruption. According to Victoria Furtună, it goes to those channels through which millions of lei are stolen from the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
In her property declaration for 2023, incomes of over 614,000 lei were reported, of which over 374,000 lei represents the salaries earned at the Prosecutor’s Office. Donations of €10,000 and 160,000 lei were also declared. Victoria Furtună owns a plot of land outside the built-up area with an area of 1.9718 ha, acquired in 2019. She also possesses a house with an area of over 100 square meters, which became inhabitable in 2017, and a car purchased in 2021.
In her election manifesto, Victoria Furtună advocates maintaining peace in the Republic of Moldova. “Peace will come through the reunification of the country with the Transnistrian region, and the unconditional acceptance of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova is the final point. Now we are in the ideal period to do this peacefully,” noted the candidate.
Victoria Furtună promises that if she is elected President, she will not initiate or provoke a military conflict, and family and work will again become sacred concepts in the Republic of Moldova. “I want you to understand that I am not against Europe and against integration into the European Union. I am ready to talk to Brussels, to Paris, to go to Berlin, only if this does not go against our interests, our faith and my love for the people,” said the candidate.
Victoria Furtună committed herself to implementing a Moldova Industrialization Plan that will include the opening of over 1,500 factories and plants, with investments in the form of leasing. For 15 years, Moldovans will increase their shareholdings in these enterprises and will finally buy them back. “Initially, these companies are managed by the Association of Mixed Industrialists, which is made up of local businesspeople and from the creditor country. According to the contract, the shares are listed on the stock exchange, where every person in the Republic of Moldova can buy them. Every year, the shareholdings of Moldovans increase, and the shareholdings of creditors must decrease,” explained Victoria Furtună.
The application of the single tax in the economy, similar to the taxation system in the IT sector, is another set objective. “There is a sector in the Republic of Moldova where things are going well and this sector is the Information Technology. This model must be multiplied! The average monthly salary in this sector last year was 40,260 lei. Here is the guarantee that all salaries are official. The residents of the IT Park benefit from a single tax system of 7% and the employer does not have to pay any additional tax. The gross salary is equal to the nominal salary,” runs the candidate’s program.
Victoria Furtună also said that when she becomes President, she will propose a legislative initiative that will equate the unfulfilled electoral promise with a scam, and the politicians who do not keep their word will be held criminally accountable.
Victoria Furtună is listed ninth on the ballot paper.
