Alexandr Stoianoglo in the election campaign is supported by the Party of Socialists (PSRM) led by Igor Dodon, the fifth president of the Republic of Moldova (2016-2020).

Alexandru Stoianoglo was born on June 3, 1967 in the municipality of Comrat in ATU Gagauzia. He studied at the Faculty of Law of the Moldova State University (1987-1992). He was a trainee, assistant prosecutor, district prosecutor, chief district prosecutor within the Prosecutor’s Office of Chisinau municipality (1992-1995). From 1995 to 2001, he served as the prosecutor of the Autonomous Aterritorial Unit of Gagauzia, and between 2001 and 2007 he held the position of deputy prosecutor general. Then, until 2009, he worked as a lawyer in the Individual Law Firm “A. Stoianoglo”.

He sat twice in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova (2009-2010 and 2011-2014), on behalf of the Democratic Party.

He took over the position of prosecutor general in November 2019, following a public competition. After almost two years, in October 2021, he was detained and placed under house arrest, and then under judicial control, being accused of abuse of office, passive corruption and false statements. He was also involved in a case regarding illicit enrichment. Alexandr Stoianoglo pleaded not guilty on all counts. In May 2022, the Superior Council of Prosecutors proposed that President Maia Sandu should discharge Alexandr Stoianoglo from the position of prosecutor general. The Council took note of the report produced by a commission that assessed his work as unsatisfactory. The decree was signed a year and a few months later, in September 2023. At the beginning of this year, the former prosecutor general was acquitted by the court of first instance in the case in which he was accused of abuse of office.

In the statements submitted to the Central Election Commission, he noted that he holds the post of director of operations and transactions at the limited liability company “Agroseminvest” and at “Corten-Vin Companie”.

For the period between January 1 and December 31, 2023, he declared over 49,000 lei salaries from the Prosecutor General’s Office. His wife declares rental income of 68,000 lei.

As for properties, Alexandru Stoianoglo indicated that he owns 2/5 of an apartment with a declared value of 942,000 lei and since 2016 he has also owned 1/2 of another property with a value of 844,000 lei – both obtained through sale and purchase agreements. In 2015, he inherited 1/2 of a plot of land with a declared value of 30,000 lei. In the same year, he inherited 1/2 of a house worth 62,000 and also ½ of another property worth almost 13,000 lei.

The former prosecutor general since 2007 has possessed a car manufactured two years earlier and which is worth 80,000 lei. He also indicated a car made in 2021 whose value is 575,000 lei. The candidate also declared a loan of 200,000 lei raised in 2023 with a zero interest rate. The loan is repayable until 2026.

Alexandr Stoianoglo launched his election campaign near the Triumphal Arch, in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral “Nativity of the Lord”, together with members of the PSRM. Among the promises, he mentioned the fight against corruption, release of people who were unjustly deprived of liberty, attraction of investments, modernization of social facilities and others. The former prosecutor general said that as a President, he will serve not only as an example of political optimism, but will also succeed in uniting citizens with the most diverse views around a common goal – “saving of the people, European modernization of the country and strengthening of national security.”

The candidate, who is supported by the Party of Socialists, considers the depopulation is Moldova’s most serious problem. If he wins a term in office as President, he will take a series of actions to stop the exodus of citizens abroad. “It is especially serious that young people are leaving the country en masse. In 2023 alone, the number of young people in the Republic of Moldova decreased by almost 40,000 or 6.5%. It is also serious that the number of deaths exceeds considerably the number of births. In 2023, the difference was 9,700 people,” said Alexandr Stoianoglo. He noted that all the state’s decisions – social, educational, health, economic, as regards the attraction of investments, European modernization – will be assessed primarily through their impact on demographic growth and recovery.

Alexandr Stoianoglo tops the list of candidates on the ballot.
