Four persons had sunstroke last weekend and needed medical care. About 5,000 persons sought emergency medical assistance last week. The condition of over 1,000 persons of these worsened suddenly, while 170 blamed the high blood pressure, the Health Division head Mihai Moldovanu said at Monday’s meeting of the City Hall, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In order to avoid cases of sunstroke and problems related to pressure, the chief doctor of Chisinau recommends abstaining from sunbathing between 11.00 and 16.00, drinking at least two liters of water a day when out of doors during the hottest hours, protecting the head with umbrellas and hats, wearing light and loose clothes.
In case of sunstroke, the person should be taken to a well-ventilated room, away from direct sunlight. They should be splashed with not very cold water or wiped with a wet sponge in order to decrease the temperature. Ice is applied to the places where the veins are more evident.
Every medical center has a specially outfitted place where those that want can measure their blood pressure. The patients are provided with free drinking water, Mihai Moldovanu said.
The World Health Organization warns against exposing to sunlight between 11.00 and 16.00. According to specialists, only 10 minutes out of doors in this period can lead to skin cancer or transformation of the benign tumors into malignant.
