Hundreds of persons daily stay in line at the Central Post Office from Chisinau in order to send their appointment request for the Romanian citizenship audience to the Consular Section of the Romanian Embassy from Chisinau
Info-Prim Neo reporter tried to find the source of the general anxiety, but most of the persons from the Central Post Office could not give any explanations, guessing that “they all decided to obtain a Romanian citizenship”.
A young lady declared, requesting anonymity, that she has been dealing this procedure in hoping there will be changes in the Republic of Moldova, but the situation keeps getting worse, and she decided that her only hopes for a brighter future is a Romanian citizenship.
A lady, also part of the large queue, declared that she decided to obtain the Romanian citizenship in order to “become a citizen of the united Europe”. To sustain this idea, several persons declared that their hopes are with Romania, and not the Republic of Moldova.
Previously, „Vocea Basarabiei” (VB) radio station announced a campaign, of collecting, for a certain price, requests for the Romanian citizenship, a campaign initiated by unknown persons, perhaps even representatives of political parties, claming the coming deadline for such papers. During a broadcast at the same radio station, the Romanian vice-consul Lucian Stanica declared that the diplomatic mission of Romania in Chisinau does not acknowledge its part in this campaign.
The vice-consul confirmed that the number of requests for the issuance of Romanian citizenship have significantly increased lately. 30 thousand requests have been received only during the last week. The diplomat declared that he doesn’t understand the hurry of this campaign, as the process of issuance of Romanian citizenship, which began in 2003, will not stop in the near future.
The Romanian press announced that a new law regarding Romanians from across the borders will be approved by the end of this year.
