Reducing energy consumption is not only an environmental protection measure, but also an effective way to save money. The National Center for Sustainable Energy provides simple but effective recommendations for optimizing the use of energy resources both at home and at work, IPN reports.

Here are some tips for reducing electricity consumption:

Use natural light as much as possible. Turn on the lights only when absolutely necessary. Turn off the lights when you leave the room or before leaving home or office. Replace classic bulbs with LED bulbs, which consume five times less electricity.

Avoid stand-by consumption: electrical appliances, TV sets and computers consume energy even if they are not in use. Unplug them or use smart plugs for fast turn-off. Unplug phone and laptop chargers after the batteries had charged. They continue to consume electricity even if they are not used.

How to save thermal energy?

Adjust the indoor temperature to an optimal level, preferably 19°C.  Each additional degree increases fuel consumption by 5-8%. Ventilate the rooms properly: open the windows wide for a short time, instead of leaving them ajar.

Insulate heat pipes, especially those in unheated spaces, such as basements or garages. Check the heating system regularly: ventilate the radiators and make sure they are not covered by curtains or objects that prevent heat distribution.

Install digital thermostats, which can reduce heating bills by up to 25%. They allow the temperature to be adjusted according to the time of day and the room used.

To reduce hot water costs, opt for short showers instead of long baths. Adjust the water temperature to the desired level without overheating it unnecessarily. Use ECO functions for boilers and other water heaters.

Regular monitoring of energy consumption helps you to quickly identify where you can make savings. Install meters for heat and electricity as these will give you a clear picture of energy efficiency.

The National Center for Sustainable Energy supports the implementation of energy-efficient solutions and promotes the use of renewable sources. Through simple measures, such as adjusting daily habits, but also through bigger investments in modern technologies, every household and institution can contribute to saving resources and protecting the environment.
