Political pundits have split opinions regarding the name of the new government coalition. While some think it should reflect the country's European orientation, others say that this would neglect a big part of the population and society needs exactly the opposite – consolidation.

Ion Tabarta, the deputy director of the Institute of Political Analysis and Consultancy “Politicon”, told IPN that the parties negotiating the formation of a new coalition should choose a different name than previous coalitions, but one that would still indicate the European orientation. Both editions of the Alliance for European Integration have been tarnished by internal conflicts and fights. Meanwhile, the Liberal Party wasn't a member of the Pro-European Coalition and most likely won't accept this name. “I think a new name is needed, but it should retain the element “European, Pro-Europe”, regardless of the exact formulation, in order to indicate clearly Moldova's course of development”, said Tabarta.

Mihai Cernencu, head of department at the Free International University of Moldova, thinks that the name should be something in the manner of “The Coalition of the Modernization of Moldova”. According to him, parties should be careful about indicating the external orientation in the name. Cernencu says that neutrality ought to be kept in order to avoid embittering part of the voters. “We need a name that would consolidate society”, stressed Cernencu.

Viorel Cibotaru, director of the European Institute of Political Studies in Moldova, said that the name depends on the type of coalition that will be formed: center-right or center-left. “This is the politicians' job, they have instruments, including ones for consulting public opinion. This is their creation and it's up to the members of these parties how they define the entity they are creating”, opined the expert. Cibotaru explained that the name should reflect the general idea of the government program and if the negotiating parties are focused on European integration, then the name should contain the European element. However, the name also ought to reflect the people who haven't voted for this direction. The risk in this case is that the name might be too general and dull.
