A case of African swine fever in domestic pigs was confirmed in Mașcăuți village of Criuleni district. The National Food Safety Agency said that measures to eradicate the hotbed are being taken, IPN reports.
“The wildlife reserves are being inspected. Measures are taken to wipe out hotbeds and to control the movement of animals and pork products, to screen domestic pigs and the populations of wild boards,” runs a press release
The Agency also said that the African swine fever restrictions in Mîndîc village of Drochia district and in Cuhureștii de Sus village of Florești district were lifted as the hotbeds there were successfully eradicated.
African swine fever is not dangerous to humans, but can swiftly spread among pigs. If the virus is confirmed, the animals are destroyed to prevent the spread of disease. A number of 115 hotbeds were reported in Moldova in 2016-2022. As a result, 32,580 domestic pigs and 223 wild boars were eliminated.
