The National Beekeeping Forum 2025 took place in Chisinau. The event brought together beekeepers, experts and decision-makers to identify solutions for the sustainable development of the sector, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, IPN reports.

"When we see that 80% of applications for advance subsidies come from beekeepers, we understand that this sector is dynamic and ready for development. If in the first ten months of 2023 we exported only 1,300 tons of honey, in 2024 we will reach more than 3,100 tons," the state secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, said.

According to Scripnic, Moldovan honey is gaining confidence on foreign markets and Moldovan beekeepers are becoming more and more competitive.

"We now have around 265 thousand beekeeping families. There is investment, hard work and this is good. We are going to perfect the BeeProtect platform. We are also working on an "electronic passport" of the beehive, a digital document that will contain all the essential information about each hive: location, health of bees, treatments applied and honey production," said Iurie Scripnic.

He also emphasized that honey is a valuable food and that students should be aware of this product: "We are working on a national program to include honey in the school children's menus".

The forum also discussed modern technologies for making hives more efficient, organic certification of beekeeping products and the marketing strategies needed to strengthen Moldova's position on the international market.
