The four SMURD crew members from Romania who died in the plane crash that occurred in Cantemir district seven years ago were commemorated. A religious ceremony was held at the memorial complex in Haragâș village of Cantemir district and flowers were laid there, IPN reports.
After observing a moment’s silence, those attending gave speeches and spoke about a real example of heroism, devotion and sacrifice of the SMURD crew that sacrificed their lives while saving Moldovan citizens. The guests attending the festivity underlined the importance of crossborder air medical operations that daily help save lives.
On Friday morning, commemoration ceremonies were held in all the local subdivisions of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations. The rescuers and firefighters flew the flags at half-mast and observed a moment’s silence in memory of the Romanian mates who died in the line of duty.
The tragedy in Haragâș happened on June 2, 2016. The helicopter was flying to Cahul district to take a patient and crashed due to the unfavorable weather.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, since the crossborder project SMURD was launched in Moldova in 2014, 122 crossborder air medical operations to transport and save Moldovans have been performed.
