The national security institutions are taking special measures in connection with the transit of Chisinau by Jews who traveled to the Ukrainian city of Uman to celebrate the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. Starting with Monday, these will be crossing Moldova back to their country of residence, IPN reports.

The Chisinau International Airport is ready to cope with the higher number of aircraft and travellers. A waiting platform intended for Hasidic Jews was set up nearby. There were put up tents for checkups. Special flows were created to process pilgrims’ travel documents. The number of workers in shifts was increased to optimize processes.

To ensure the schedule of flights is not affected, the passengers of regular flights are asked to come to the airport earlier. To avoid crowdedness, access to the airport is permitted only to passengers with plane tickets and to airport personnel.

Uman has been a pilgrimage site for around 200 years. It is the birthplace of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, one of the founders of the Jewish Hasidic movement.
