The young dancers from Heciul-Nou village of Sângerei district, who became viral these days on social networking sites after they made a sensation at a show in Romania and were invited to the Presidential Palace, had a meeting with President Maia Sandu. The head of state congratulated them on their performance that overflew with energy, passion and vitality, which charmed millions of people, IPN reports.

“It was for us a dance of life and death in the truest sense of the word. That’s why we gave everything we could on that stage,” confessed the leader of the ensemble Dionisie Cobilaș. Even though “Hecenii” had already existed for 13 years and generations of dancers had formed part of this, the current dancers risked being left without a rehearsal room.

President Sandu was impressed by their dedication, devotion and determination to fight for existence, for performance and for the dream to make their themselves famous around the world.

“I also have a lot of admiration for the leader of the ensemble, Dionisie Cobilaș, a former pupil of the renowned choreographer Ion Sambriș, who founded “Heceni”. A people’s saying says that “man sanctifies the place” and Dionisie is a true example of a man who, despite the fact that he also commutes weekly, and in the last year he has worked even without pay, manages to produce and maintain in the heart of children that spark of passion from which everything starts. Such people are the true ambassadors of our country and it is vital to support and cherish them,” said Maia Sandu, being quoted in a press release.

The “Hecenii” dancers enjoyed success at the latest show “Romania’s Got Talent”. The jury members said that it is for the first time in history that a folk group received the Golden Buzz special prize, which ensured their propulsion to the semifinal.

“This is the first time that a folk dance has taken me through all the states. I rejoiced like a child seeing how much energy you have. I’m a lover of folk music and traditions, but it seems to me that you have the whole package. Folklore will never die because, when I look at you, I think the future sounds good. I have never seen such dedication in folk dances and I know that it is a premiere,” singer Andra, a jury member, said before pressing the button and propelling “Hecenii” Ensemble directly to the semifinal of the competition.
